AI Providers (BYOK)
BYOK — Bring Your Own Key — lets you connect your own AI provider API keys to Flokan. By default, Flokan's AI features use built-in provider access that consumes your plan's credits. With BYOK, you can use your own API accounts directly, giving you more control over costs, model access, and compliance.
Why Use BYOK?
There are several reasons you might want to connect your own API keys:
Cost Optimization
If your team does high-volume AI generation (hundreds of images per month, extensive text processing), using your own API keys with volume pricing may be more cost-effective than Flokan's credit system.
Specific Model Access
Your own API keys give you access to the full range of models offered by each provider, including any private or beta models available to your account. Flokan's built-in access uses a curated set of models.
Enterprise Compliance
Some organizations require that all API calls go through their own accounts for audit, billing, and compliance purposes. BYOK ensures all AI requests are made under your organization's API agreements.
Rate Limits
Your own API keys come with your own rate limits. If you need higher throughput than Flokan's shared pool provides, BYOK gives you dedicated capacity.
Supported Providers
Configure API keys for any of these AI services:
| Provider | Used For | Features |
|---|---|---|
| OpenAI | Text generation, content processing | GPT models for script analysis, content generation, and data transformation |
| Anthropic | Text generation, analysis | Claude models for advanced text understanding and generation |
| Google AI | Text generation | Gemini models for text processing tasks |
| Deepgram | Audio transcription | Speech-to-text for voiceover transcription in VO to Images |
| ElevenLabs | Voice synthesis | AI voice generation for voiceover content |
| Image Providers | Image generation | Ideogram and other providers for Image Editor, Thumbnail Generator, and VO to Images |
Setup
API keys are sensitive credentials. They are stored securely on the server and are never exposed in the browser or sent to other users. Only workspace administrators can view and manage API key settings.
- Navigate to Settings → AI Providers
- Select the provider you want to configure
- Enter your API key
- Click Save
Once saved, Flokan will use your API key for all requests to that provider within your workspace. If you remove the key, Flokan falls back to the built-in provider access (consuming plan credits).
Per-Provider Notes
OpenAI
Enter your OpenAI API key. Flokan uses it for any text generation tasks that utilize GPT models. You can find your API key in the OpenAI platform dashboard under API Keys.
Anthropic
Enter your Anthropic API key for Claude model access. Find your key in the Anthropic Console under API Keys.
Deepgram
Used specifically for audio transcription in the VO to Images pipeline. Enter your Deepgram API key from the Deepgram console.
ElevenLabs
Used for AI voice synthesis features. Enter your ElevenLabs API key from your account dashboard.
BYOK vs. Plan Credits
| Aspect | Plan Credits | BYOK |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | None required | Enter API keys in settings |
| Billing | Flokan subscription | Directly from your provider account |
| Model access | Curated selection | Full provider catalog |
| Rate limits | Shared pool | Your account's limits |
| Cost tracking | Flokan dashboard | Provider dashboard |
| Compliance | Flokan's agreements | Your organization's agreements |
You can mix both approaches — use BYOK for some providers and plan credits for others. Flokan checks for a BYOK key first, and falls back to built-in access if none is configured.
